Theatre Classes:

Our theatre classes are designed to introduce acting students to the fundamentals of stage performance in a nurturing and collaborative environment. Classes are balanced between collaborative exercises and principles of individual performance. Each acting class will culminate in a performance of our work for families and friends. Classes run for 7 weeks in both fall and winter sessions. Class start times are set to accommodate multiple dismissal times at area schools. 

 

Acting Up, (Grades 3,4,5): (Miller Center; Montview)  

Note: Due to the nature of the content, activities, and skills we will study, this class must have a minimum of 6 students registered to run in autumn and winter semesters. I will communicate with all families of participants about registration numbers as the class approaches. 

Session 1;(Tuesdays): SEP 24; OCT 1, 8, *22, 29; NOV 5, 12; 4:30-6:30 pm; (Registrations accepted through Monday, 16 SEP 2024)

(*Due to a prior commitment, this class does not run on Tuesday, 15 OCT.) 

Session 2;(Tuesdays): JAN 21, 28; FEB 4, 11, *25; MAR 4, 11 ; 4:30-6:30 pm; (Registrations accepted through Monday, 13 JAN 2025 (*Due to President's day, this class will not run on Tuesday, 18 FEB.) 

Cost: $250 for Session 1 or Session 2; $500 for both Session 1 and 2

  • Theatre games to build comfort with performance

  • Teamwork with actors and building ensemble

  • Stage positions and following blocking 

  • Projection, diction, and performance stance

  • Building a character from the ground up

  • Motivation and commitment to character

  • Dialogue and interactions with other characters

  • Showcase of final work for presented following final session.

Actors' Workshop, (Grades 6,7,8): (Miller Center; Montview)

Session 1; (Mondays): SEP 23, 30; OCT 7, *21, 28; NOV 4, 11; 5:30-7:30 pm; (Registrations accepted through Monday, 16 SEP 2024(*Due to a prior commitment, this class does not run on Monday, 14 OCT.) 

Session 2; (Mondays): JAN 20, 27; FEB 3, 10, *24; MAR 3; 10; 5:30-7:30 pm; (Registrations accepted through Monday, 13 JAN 2025

(*Due to President's day, this class will not run on Monday, 17 FEB.)

Cost: $250 for Session 1 or Session 2; $500 for both Session 1 and 2

This class for older actors runs in a workshop format in which the focus of our class time will be on exploring and rehearsing a range of characters to inhabit in both scenes and monologues. Within this workshop, we will increase actors' expertise in these essential skills: 

  • Refining strategies for creating a character 

  • Nuances of dialogue, listening, and reacting

  • Representing character relationships 

  • Acting techniques for the genres of drama and comedy

  • Rehearsal techniques and preparing for performances

  • Dialogue and interactions with other characters

  • Showcase of final work for presented following final session.

Individual Coaching for Auditions or Acting Skill Refinement:

  • Monologue choice

  • Personal coaching on memorization and performance

  • Audition basics of confidence, delivery, and perseverance

MCA is Seeking Instructors for Performance and Visual Arts Classes:

MCA is hoping to expand class offerings in performance and visual arts in the coming years. Teaching experience in arts instruction for children and/or youth is required, whether in a school or an enrichment program setting. We are seeking a student-focused teachers interested in building and expanding our MCA arts program for after-school classes.
