Music Classes:

Note: Our Playing Around music classes are currently on hold as we search for a new instructor. Please check back in autumn 2024.
Designed to engage your child's creative mind and playful nature, the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education provides the opportunity to develop musical skills in an environment that encourages individuality, collaboration, and participation. Among the countless other benefits, music education fosters social and emotional skills, and aides in the development of decoding and fine motor skills. These skills are keys to success for all young children. The typical Orff-Schulwerk learning cycle includes:
  • Picture books and/or poems used as a springboard for capturing the imagination of the students.
  • Speech and song used to introduce musical concepts and practice skill development.
  • Instruments from various country origins, (such as iconic xylophones, glockenspiels, and metallphones), used to apply newly developed skills and encourage further musical exploration and improvisation
  • Recorder instruction is included for older students.
  • Dramatic play is a common element within Orff lessons.
